10 Tips For A More Frugal Life

Being frugal is a way of life. Cost-conscious spending and budget-friendly choices are the backbone for becoming financially savvy and frugal consumer. The 10 frugal tips below will help anyone on their way to a better financial well-being.

1. Shop Online Before Going To The Retail Store.
Doing a little online research can sometimes save you some big bucks. Sites like Ebay, Amazon and Overstock often have an inventory that is current and considerably cheaper than buying the exact same product at an actual department store.

2. Skip lunch time spending and bring your own meal to work.
Going to a restaurant during your lunch break is costly and usually unhealthy. Opt instead to bring your own food to the office and save up to $50 per week!

3. Stop wasting energy and close those vents
Why would anyone cool or heat an unused room? Shave some money off of your monthly electric bill by making sure vents in rooms that are not often used are closed.

4. Replace your home telephone with your cell.
With so many people using cell phones for their main communication method, home land lines are quickly becoming obsolete. If you find yourself never using your home phone, you may want to cut the service and instantly save money month over month.

5. Repair your car instead of buying a new one.
Besides doing some regular maintenance on your vehicle, sometimes an unexpected situation pops up that has you contemplating whether to repair your car or trade it in for a new one. If your repair will get your car up and running for at least another year, opt to repair instead of gaining a new monthly car payment.

6. Make sure your tires are properly inflated.
While were on the subject of vehicle maintenance, keeping your car tire pressure at the proper levels not only keeps you save, but it can save you money on gas consumption.

7. Cancel your magazine subscriptions
Did you know that most public libraries carry the most recent issues of the most popular magazines in circulation? Well they do and best of all, it is totally free to read these mags if you simply pay a visit to your local library.

8. Buy used or refurbished
If you are shopping around for tech products, you can usually save a bundle by choosing a refurbished product. If you do decide to buy used, make sure to check the details on the manufacturer warranty.

9. Bad habits cost money
Do you smoke? Do you gamble? These activities are just a couple of examples of how a bad habit can put a major drain on your financial well being. Do yourself a favor and consider quitting at least one bad habit. The positive momentum just might cause you to stop the others.

10. Consider paying your insurance annually instead of monthly.

If you are currently paying monthly on your insurance plans, there is probably some sort of fee that is tacked on for this service. Paying in full at the beginning of the year can save you time and money in the long run.
